The Many Bodies of The Duchess: A feminist understanding of Body Politics in The Duchess of Malfi

An attempt is made in this paper to view the different bodies possessed by a woman within her ‘natural’ body. Through the lens of the Duchess of Malfi, an intersectional merging of several spheres of life is indicated. The body politics is highlighted here and how the play unabashedly boasts of female transgression and tries to understand the various identities that the female protagonist here had to balance and do justice to.
